Fees and Payment

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover the costs of psychological services. However, many people do have coverage through extended health care plans often provided through their or another family member’s place of employment Since these plans vary considerably in coverage you are encouraged to review your policy and approach your human resources representative if you have any questions or concerns about your coverage. If you have coverage by all means use it — you paid for it with your premiums!

Psychological service fees conform to the recommended fee schedule of the Ontario Psychological Association. In situations of financial hardship fees may be adjusted. Please feel free to discuss any concerns you may have about fees.

For those who incur out-of-pocket expense you may claim these as health care expenses on your federal income tax return. Psychological health care services are HST exempt.

Billing Procedures

You are responsible for payment of your service fees. If you have private insurance or are paying for your own services you are requested to pay by cash or cheque at the end of each appointment, unless alternative arrangements are made. A statement will be issued to you monthly. Most private insurance companies require that you submit this statement as evidence of payment and then will reimburse you. Please let us know if your insurance company requires the completion of special forms.

Where coverage is provided under the Medavie Blue Cross (Veterans Affairs - National Defence), Ontario Automobile Insurance Plan (if MVA) or WSIB (if accident related) statements may be sent to your insurer and payment is made directly to your psychologist, sparing you inconvenience.

Cancellations and Missed Appointments

48 hours is required for cancellation of an appointment or full fee will be charged. Exceptions may be made in certain circumstances involving confirmed illness or loss. Missed appointments will be charged full fee. It is important that you understand that insurers usually do not reimburse late cancellations or missed appointments

If you have any concerns about your ability to attend regularly please discuss this with your psychologist.
